Yolboyu Village

Yakup Şamcı, Organic Farmer, Head of Village Cooperative

YOLBOYU is one of the most important villages in the Kars region built by Molokans, Russian emigrates who moved to the area in the early 1900s and left in the 1960s to return to their homeland or emigrate to the USA. They lived in Communes and were agricultural pioneers. They left behind water-mills and a deep traditional food and agricultural wisdom.

YOLBOYU Village farmers take part in Anatolia Foundation Organic Certification Program. Yakup Samci, a pioneer farmer, established recently a Farmer's Cooperative in the village. The Cooperative will become a center of activity for the gathering, production and marketing of organic products; an insurance of sustainability for the project.
